Description

Derbyshire Student Residences Ltd (DSRL) are a wholly owned subsidiary of the University of Derby. DSRL operate 10 student accommodation sites with 9 in Derby and 1 in Buxton. The internet services for these sites serve c. 2 800 students each year and need to be fast, reliable, secure and able to cope with the academic and social demands of young people now and into the future. Our sites range from 423 bed spaces to as small as 60 bed spaces and are typically cluster flats but with small numbers of apartments. Students typically utilise Wi-Fi greatly through multiple devices so great Wi-Fi coverage is a necessity, but wired connections are also required and well used. Outside of the traditional student lets we also require our partners in this project to support connectivity of site facilities such as access systems and laundry. ‘DSRL’ or ‘Student Living’ in this tender, both refer to Derbyshire Student Residences Ltd.

Renewal Options

Initial term of 5 years with options to extend for 3 + 2 years. The University of Derby is seeking to contract with a capable supplier of communications and IT services, to provide wired and wireless internet access for a period of 5 years, with an option to extend the contract by a further 3 + 2 years. The decision on the length of contract is justified by the need to realise the benefits and return on investment. Our students typically enrol for 3-year under-graduate courses, but potentially their study could be extended should they elect to pursue a Master’s degree or similar. Student success is measured by their retention during their studies, and graduate outcomes (i.e. did they achieve a graduate-level role or further study, following their undergraduate studies at Derby).
