Legal Justification
Elekta Vantage solution is technically different to other products of a similar nature in the market. The Vantage frame is non-metallic (unique) and does not need to be sterilised. The first advantage of this is that no metal component is involved in the imaging process (MR and CT) - other stereotactic frames are metal and that introduces a source of artefact into the imaging process. The scanner protocols can be set to generate images more quickly, thereby reducing time in the scanner; the quality of the fine detail in the images is far superior and there is much less artefact. The second point is that the workflow is easier because the frame does not need to be recycled though central sterile services department (CSSD).The Vantage instrument carrier has a Vernier scale, which gives sub millimetre accuracy (< 0.9 mm) when delivering an instrument or electrode. This is very beneficial in placing such devices as a dbs electrode. The Vantage frame has an open face design (unique), which makes it much easier to anaesthetise the patient and to communicate with the patient during awake procedures like treatment of movement disorders. The solution will integrate with Trust MRI and CT scanners.
