Description

NHS England, Highly Specialised Services (referred to as the Commissioner) is inviting suitably qualified and experienced providers to express interest for the Provision of Amyloidosis Networked Model of Care services, by responding to this opportunity as required and described within this published Competitive Process. NHS Arden and Greater East Midlands CSU (AGCSU) is acting as an agent for and on behalf of the Commissioner and is supporting the provider selection process.Amyloidosis is the name for a group of rare, serious conditions caused by a build-up of an abnormal protein, called amyloid, in organs and tissues throughout the body. The build-up of amyloid proteins (deposits) can make it difficult for the organs and tissues to work properly.The key objectives of the Competitive Process are to commission a networked model of care for Amyloidosis services to establish four regional centres under this initial process. This is to ensure a good level of access in place that is able to meet the expected demand for the service. The eligibility criteria, lotting structure and scope of services are detailed in this document. Bidders must be located within the Lot geography for which they are bidding.The regional centres are proposed to be in the: • Lot 1 - South West • Lot 2 - Midlands • Lot 3 - North West• Lot 4 - North East and YorkshireDeadline for expressions of interest is the 07th of November 2024 by 17:00hrs.It is envisaged that service commencement will be in May 2025.The contract duration is for 5 years with the option to extend for a further 24 months.

The key objective is to commission a networked model of care for Amyloidosis services for the Midlands Region (Lot 2) . This is to ensure a good level of access in place that is able to meet the expected demand for the service for this region. Bidders must be located within the Midlands geography to be eligible to bid for this Lot.

The key objective is to commission a networked model of care for Amyloidosis services for the North West Region (Lot 3) . This is to ensure a good level of access in place that is able to meet the expected demand for the service for this region. Bidders must be located within the North West geography to be eligible to bid for this Lot.

4 North East and Yorkshire

The key objective is to commission a networked model of care for Amyloidosis services for the North East and Yorkshire Region (Lot 4) . This Competitive Process has been advertised in accordance with the requirements of the Health Care Services (Provider Selection Regime) Regulations 2023 (PSR).Amyloidosis is the name for a group of rare, serious conditions caused by a build-up of an abnormal protein, called amyloid, in organs and tissues throughout the body. The build-up of amyloid proteins (deposits) can make it difficult for the organs and tissues to work properly.Without treatment, this can lead to organ failure and death. This disease presents predominantly in older people and is difficult to diagnose. A highly specialised service (HSS) was commissioned for amyloidosis as it was; • a rare disease• challenging to diagnose outside of a specialist centre and • patients nationally had poor outcomes with high levels of mortality. The service has been commissioned for more than 20 years and there is a single national provider, the National Amyloidosis Centre (NAC); Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. The increase in activity has meant that the service has outgrown its capacity and this proposal is to establish a network of providers in England.
