Description
There is a continuing demand to provide engineering apprentices to SDA’s engineering function through the continuation of bespoke SDA apprenticeship schemes, which are necessary to support the Engineering strategy. The Waterfront Apprenticeship Scheme has a duration of up to 3 years, spanning 4 financial years for each intake. The apprentices’ first year is spent full-time at college (workshop type training) and years 2 to 3 are a mixture of further academic study and work placements within SDA project teams. This results in both technical academic and vocational qualification alongside workplace experience providing a beneficial mix of technical knowledge, and broader Success Profile development. The scheme provision is for 30 apprentices per each academic year for 3 years. The scheme has (and intends to continue to do so) exploited the Apprentice Levy which provides a significant amount of the training cost of the scheme. In order to use the Levy, approved standards must be adopted. Currently this is: Engineering Technician Standard ST1395.

Alongside the course, the Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) is to be included, as per the apprentice standards. The training facilities must be accessible for the attendance of the apprentices with the majority of Apprentices being within the Southwest Region.
