Description
As a Waste Disposal Authority, Devon County Council is responsible for providing facilities (Household Waste Recycling Centres (HWRCs)), at which members of the public can discard their bulky household waste. The authority manages a network of 19 HWRCs which manage approximately 80,000 tonnes per annum of household waste. Of the 19 HWRCs, Deepmoor HWRC in the District of Torridge is subject to contract with a third-party service provider and therefore not part of this contract. In 2023-24 the 18 HWRCs involved in this contract handled approx. 79,000 tonnes of waste in total, while the two Waste Transfer Stations handled approx. 12,000 tonnes. The focus of the contract shall be to reduce residual waste, maximise recycling, re-use and re-sale, whilst minimising cost.
