Description

- Provide an identification service for invasive invertebrate plant pests for all of the UKs Overseas Territories: including invasive non-native invertebrate plant pests which impact on biodiversity and commercial interests - Provide rapid advice where possible, when bio-security threats detected, in the form of guidance on appropriate measures - Provision of remote (e.g. online) basic training to colleagues on Overseas Territories so that local capacity is developed where resources permit this. The very real threat posed by invasive non-native species, continues to be one of the biggest environmental threats to biodiversity Overseas Territories, having a significant economic impact tourism, agriculture and forestry. Providing these services would help meet Defra's commitments set out in the 25 Year Economic Plan, specifically taking action to recover threatened, iconic or economically imported species of animals, plants and fungi and where possible to prevent human-induced extinction or loss of known threatened species in England and the Overseas Territories. In addition, it would also contribute to improving Overseas Territories ability to meet international obligations to protect biodiversity, including under the Convention on Biological Diversity and UN Sustainable Delivery Goals.
