Description
The University of Birmingham invites tenders for supply of a magnetically shielded room (MSR). The room will be part of facilities at the Centre for Human Brain Health. MSR will be used by the project focused on developing new types of quantum magnetic sensors, optically pumped magnetometers (OPMs) and fining applications in neuroscience for the developed technology.
Total Quantity or Scope
The University of Birmingham invites tenders for supply of a magnetically shielded room (MSR). The room will be part of facilities at the Centre for Human Brain Health. MSR will be used by the project focused on developing new types of quantum magnetic sensors, optically pumped magnetometers (OPMs) and fining applications in neuroscience for the developed technology. Magnetically shielded room for OPM applications should be compatible to use with SERF type OPMs. It means that after installation and demagnetisation the background static magnetic field should be reduced to ideally ∼1.5nT, with field gradients of less than 2 nT·m-1 in the central 1 m3. The room should comprise at least 2 mu-metal layers and a single copper or aluminium layer for shielding of high frequencies. The MSR room should be at least 2.4m x2.4m x2.4m internal volume. The interior should include flooring and side walls/ceiling covers. We will require several access holes, for example for the projector or cabling and ventilation. Dimmable low noise lights should be fitted inside. We require the room to be equipped with the degaussing coils system and necessary equipment, with easy on demand degaussing options (up to several times per day). The cost should include cabling for degaussing unit, integration and testing. Magnetic specification — following equilibration after degaussing: Below 5nT residual DC field in the centre 1 m3 DC shielding factor at least 3000 0.01 Hz shielding factor 100 0.1Hz shielding factor 200 1 Hz shielding factor of 500 10 — 100 Hz shielding factor at least 2 000 Field gradients below 2nT/m in the centre 1 m3 volume Overall budget for this item together with shipping, assembly and testing is up to GBP 340 000.00 (VAT exemption as it is for medical research). This project may be funded by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) or; — European Structural and Investment Fund (ESIF) or, — Research Councils UK (RCUK), the strategic partnership of the UK's seven Research Councils.
