Legal Justification
We require an MRI compatible neonatal incubator for use in pre-clinical neonatal neuroprotection studies at the Large Animal Research and Imaging Facility (LARIF), University of Edinburgh. These studies are of a highly specialised nature; the subject requires 72h intensive care support and within this period, 2 MRI scans. Belmont Medical technologies are able to supply the Lammers Medical Incubator. The company have adapted the size and shape of the incubator interior to enable our 72h studies to be performed safely. Adaptations include the ability to administer constant anesthesia over the 72h and space to fit a cooling/temperature regulating blanket. The company also provide an integrated Radiofrequency coil for use in the Siemens MRI system at the LARIF. There are no other MRI compatible neonatal incubators that can be adapted to fit the needs of our pre-clinical studies or who can provide the radiofrequency coil that can be used with the Siemens MRI system.
