Description

In response to Covid-19, it is important to protect patients and staff and minimise the risk of infection. It is therefore important to rapidly implement digital solutions to support clinicians to triage and consult with patients remotely, and to also support clinicians and other staff to work remotely. This will require rapid acceleration of the aims of the digital first programme to deliver key capabilities to all GP practices in England where they do not currently have them. Mobilisation at pace and at scale to support the introduction of ‘total triage’ or ‘triage first’ across all practices will be necessary to support the response to Covid-19. It will also be necessary to ensure that all practices are able to use video consultations to support remote management of patients’ needs and particularly to support the many patients that it is expected will feel additional reassurance in receiving video contact with a clinician over and above telephone contact.
