Description
Public Health England (PHE) is planning to award a contract for the urgent provision of Mosquito HV and Dragonfly Discovery Liquid handling devices from SPT Labtech Ltd (UK). This is part of a critical project to rapidly expand the SARS-CoV-2 sequencing capacity in seven PHE laboratories between April and September 2021.
Total Quantity or Scope
PHE will be sourcing mosquito HV and dragonfly discovery liquid handling devices and associated pipette tips from SPT Labtech Ltd. PHE understands that this is the only system in the market that is capable of meeting PHE’s specific requirements of: Provision of pipette tip supply for 6 months SPT manufacture tips for the mosquito HV and dragonfly discovery liquid handling devices at their UK based office. As such, and unlike many other liquid handling systems, SPT have so far never experienced any shortages of tip stock or delays on supply of their tips to customers during the COVID-19 pandemic. And there is strong assurance of Spare manufacturing capacity also available for SPT tips. Prevention of cross contamination As cross-contamination protection, the pipetting action, splash guard and single-use disposable positive displacement pipettes ameliorate the possibility as far as is possible and to date nearly 200,000 COVID genomes have been sequenced at the Sanger using the instruments. Sample handling High speed sample stamping to/from both 96-well and 384-well plates in under 5 minutes. With a handling range of 700nl to 5ul between both 96-well and 384-well plates for a range of fluid viscosities. A minimum of 5 deck positions for 96/384 well plate handling. Reagent dispensing High speed dispensing of reagents into complete 96-well and 384-well plates in under 5 minutes. Volume handling range 2 to 45ul into both 96-well and 384-well plates for a range of fluid viscosities. These are liquid handling requirements for the urgent expansion of high throughput SARS-CoV-2 sequencing capacity on a variety of sequencing platforms within a short timeframe. Legal Justification
These are essential requirements of expanding high throughout SAR-CoV-2 sequencing within an urgent timeframe, whilst also providing a legacy of equipment with the functionality to be adapted and repurposed in future. UK supply of consumable tips is a key concern to avoid disruptions to this critical service.
