Description

Merseytravel have a delivery schedule from Stadler for the new fleet of class 777 Electric Multiple Units (EMU’s) and will be introducing these in due course. As a result there will be new and existing trains on the network at the same time. There will be 57 or 58 3-car units to be moved consisting of a combination of class 507 and 508 EMU’s. Initially there will be 22 moves from December 2020 to September 2021 with 2 units being removed at a time. It is envisaged that the remaining 14 units will be removed in pairs during 2023.

Total Quantity or Scope

The Merseyrail network is a 3rd rail network and there is a limit on how many trains can be stabled and operated without affecting the day to day service of the operation. On time removal of the existing fleet is essential as new units will be arriving on a frequent basis. For information the network capacity has been capped at 68 units (existing and new).
