Description

A groundwater flood forecasting service that can support operational decision making on groundwater flood risk for the FFC’s Flood Guidance Statement (FGS) and Monthly Outlook (a 30 day high level forecast.

Total Quantity or Scope

The service will support a scenario based approach to groundwater flood forecasting covering the Best Estimate (BE) and Reasonable Worse Case (RWC) scenarios through use of Numerical Weather Prediction ensemble forecasts. The service will also be used to trigger and support better quality conversations between the FFC and local Environment Agency forecasters on groundwater flooding. The service will focus on providing guidance relevant to individual locations (represented by individual boreholes) as well as larger areas through the application of upscaling to a catchment or part catchment scale.
