Total Quantity or Scope

Lothian Health Board (more commonly known as NHS Lothian) requires a managed service solution for its core molecular testing capacity for a contract period of 5 years. The Supplier will assume responsibility for the guaranteed availability of the managed service solution through the provision and management including maintenance.

Legal Justification

This contract is being awarded under the Direct Award procedure under Lot 1 – Clinical Managed Services of the SBS Framework Clinical Managed Services including Managed Maintenance Services and associated Consultancy Services SBS/18/OA/FBY/9308. NHS Lothian’s Core Molecular Laboratory Medicine service is playing a vital role as part of the NHS Scotland Pandemic response, turning around SARS-COV-2 test results and has a robust process in place which includes trained staff, equipment, plus a complex supply and data relationship with NHS National Services Scotland. The direct award will ensure this response can be maintained and also provides the time to enable the molecular laboratory medicine team to review it's service requirements post pandemic with the aim of commencing the procurement of its core molecular laboratory managed service at year 3 of this 5-year contract, with implementation also occurring within the 5-year period.
