Description

The project aims to provide the GB rail industry with the necessary information to understand the possible ways forward when changes to the TSI on DAC are introduced in 2022 and the implications of each option. To guide industry decisions on how DAC should be considered for the WAG NTSN, this research will need to identify and analyse: •Technical and operation implications of adopting DAC (e.g. required work to fit and retrofit, new solutions unlocked by their use - e.g. information, confirmation of formation, sensing solutions) as well as of not adopting DAC (e.g. cost and availability of current couplings if EU adopts DAC, implication on international operations, implication on GB operations and alternative/future technological solutions). •Potential strategies and associated timescales for managing the transition from conventional couplings to DAC for both new build and retro fitment in GB. •Benefits, costs and risks for the transition options identified, including consideration of future implications in term of technology dependencies and opportunities, in particular those related to ETCS and train integrity.
