Description

DFID is combining the fund manager requirement of SRIA and ATIP into a joint fund - RISA; This will enable the two programmes, SRIA and ATIP, to more effectively realise the synergies between their objectives of strengthening research systems and innovation systems. The RISA Fund is jointly funded by the two separate DFID programmes and has three broad objectives: (A) Research institution and system strengthening (SRIA). To support research organisations to have the capabilities necessary to produce relevant, high quality research and to create an enabling environment for researchers and research organisations. which aims to invest in projects to i) support the building blocks of research in research institutions and ii) supports research systems to create an enabling environment for research. In the first instance, this fund is expected to be ~£12m and cover 3-4 years of implementation in Kenya, Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, Rwanda, Ghana and Nigeria. This will be funded solely through SRIA. (B) Innovation system strengthening (ATIP). To strengthen the enablers for the scaling of new and emerging technologies with the high potential for poverty reduction and inclusive growth in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, and South Africa . ATIP's overarching objective is to support the creation of more effective innovation ecosystems that catalyse new technologies to scale in these countries. This will be funded solely through ATIP. C) Strengthening synergies between Research and Innovation systems (SRIA + ATIP). To identify and support linkages between Research and Innovation systems that will improve their integration and coordination. This will be funded through both programmes.
