Description

Sheffield Teaching Hospitals has committed to install a completely new replacement data network and integrate it with the existing network with the intention that it should replace the current network over time. The focus of this element of the programme is the rollout of 2,200 new 802.11ax (WiFi6) capable Wireless Access Points (APs) to replace the existing 2,060 x mainly 802.11n capable APs. The APs have already been procured, as have the requisite edge switches to provide PoE+, port bandwidth requirements (using Cisco Multigig technology) and the requisite wireless LAN controllers. At installation the Cisco Catalyst 9130 APs will be controlled by a resilient pair of Cisco 5520 WLCs, they will later be migrated to a resilient pair of Cisco 8540 WLCs and finally moved to a resilient pair of Cisco Catalyst 9800 controllers to form part of the STH Cisco SDA wireless fabric. The requirement is to assist STH in quickly installing the vast majority of the APs across: • Northern General campus • Central campus hospital buildings including houses on Claremont Place and Crescent and Beech Hill Road and a lesser number of APs (about 45) located at: • Concord Sports Centre • Thorncliffe Sports Centre • Graves Sports Centre • Cherry Tree at Nether Edge • Zest at Upperthorpe • AWRC at Attercliffe • Wheata Dental Clinic at Parson Cross • Diabetic Eye Screening on Glossop Road • Beech Hill at Norfolk Park • Beighton Clinic • Bowel Cancer Screening at Hydra Industrial Estate Project Implementation This tender document requests professional services from the successful supplier to: • Replace all existing APs throughout the Trust (causing minimum downtime to users) as directed later in this document. • Install all new APs throughout the Trust as directed later in this document. • Ensure that all newly installed APs have been affixed as instructed and are secure. • Ensure that all newly installed APs are free from any damage and are clean. • Ensure that all newly installed data cabling is installed to the standards specified later in this document. • Ensure that all newly installed APs are operational. • Where necessary perform basic data cable connectivity testing and remediate any problems. • Collect all new APs and documentation from the IT department based at the Northern campus. • Return all old APs that have been removed and updated documentation to the IT department based at the Northern campus. • Work collaboratively with the Trust IT network engineers to assure a successful completion by the end of March 2022.
