Description

The University has received funding from the ESRC to conduct the first wave of the Gender and Generations Survey ("GGS") in the UK. The GGS is one of the main outputs of the Generations and Gender Programme ("GGP"), an international Research Infrastructure supported by the European Commission. Over the past 20 years, the GGP has collected survey data in 25 countries in Europe and beyond (www.ggp-i.org). The GGP has launched a new round of surveys, GGS2020, to understand how families have been changing over the past several decades. A consortium board has developed the instrument and fine-tuned the data collection methods. The central hub, based at the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute ("NIDI"), has coded the survey into Blaise software, which leads directly to their data storage facility. The data will be available to researchers through NIDI and the UK data archive. The University of Southampton has received funding to complete Phase 1) redevelop the existing Blaise software and implement improved partnership and fertility histories; Phase 2) implement the survey and collect the data. The purpose of this soft market test exercise ("Exercise") is to essentially assess the appetite and capability within the market place to conduct a project of this nature. The University is keen to explore options that are currently available in the marketplace and this exercise aims to inform interested parties of our anticipated requirements. We hope that this will present an opportunity to open dialogues prior to engaging in any business agreement.
