Description

NHS North East London Clinical Commissioning Group (NELCCG) are seeking an experienced provider to support a Train the Trainers mentoring programme in Barking & Dagenham (B&D). Train the Trainers is a school and community-based programme in which older students are trained to act as peer mentors for younger students who may be struggling with issues relating to their emotional wellbeing. Mentors and mentees meet with each other regularly for approximately 10 weeks. This programme trains young people (aged 15 - 17yrs) in B&D schools to become peer mentors through a 2-day accredited programme of learning. These mentors are then able to offer a 10-week programme of support all mentees (aged 12 - 14yrs) - a programme that offers both 1:1 support and group based positive activities. Aims of service: The 2 days of Training the Trainers as delivered by youth practitioners and the clinical lead for the programme. The attendees leave with; - A full understanding of the core principles of peer support and the underlying psychological theory that informs this programme - Knowledge on how to deliver this work, from recruitment of mentors and mentees through to the mentoring process itself and the supervision - Clarity around how to fully evaluate the impact of this work - An understanding of how to address safeguarding concerns that might arise within the programme - To offer accreditation for the young people on the programme This service supports the following outcomes: • Increased access to support networks and reduced isolation • Increased confidence leading to engagement with meaningful activities • Increased confidence, skills and motivation to self-manage • Increased strategies to support achievement of desired outcomes • Reduced anxiety and emotional distress, increased emotional resilience • Increased access to entitled support, which will aid recovery and carers in their caring role The service is anticipated to run for an initial period of 3 years with an option to extend for a further 2 years with an estimated value of £40,000 per annum.
