Description

The University of Aberdeen is constructing an experimental MRI scanner for use in clinical research. This project requires the design and manufacture of a bespoke motorised patient positioning system, outer covers (for safety and cosmetic purposes) and a bore section that can hold a whole-body radio frequency coil and various electronic equipment such as light, microphone and others. All parts must be manufactured to a standard required for future clinical certification.

Lot Division

1 Bore Section

Lot 1 comprises the section located inside the bore of the magnet, the tabletop of the patient couch and the control panel at the front of the scanner. Further Information is available in the ITT documentation

2 Motorized Patient Positioning System

Lot 2 comprises the support and mechanical elements of the motorised patient couch that are to actuate the tabletop included in Lot 1. It includes a support base, mechanical systems for vertical and horizontal positioning, an anchoring mechanism to attach the tabletop and the control electronics. The mechanical system must allow safe and precise positioning of the patient inside the magnet. Further information is available in the ITT documentation

3 Outer Covers

Lot 3 comprises the outer covers required for safety, access to control panels, sensors support, cable support and aesthetics. The covers must be manufactured using materials and standards compatible with clinical usage and must be aesthetically pleasing. Similar to Lot 1, the outer covers will need to provide mounting points for additional sensors located inside the cowling structure. The outer cover will also have to accommodate cable trays located on both sides of the scanner to secure the various cooling pipes, electric power cables and other RF and signal cables that need to reach the scanner from the floor and ceiling. Further information is available in the ITT documentation
