Description

The University of Birmingham has decided to review its present arrangements for the provision of Health Clearance and Occupational Health Services for clinical programme students. Providers are invited to tender for both services, but consideration will be given to individual service applications. The University reserves the right not to award both services to a single provider. The Colleges of Medical and Dental Sciences and Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Birmingham incorporate the subject areas of medicine, pharmacy, physicians' associate, biomedical sciences, dentistry, nursing and physiotherapy. The Colleges will require clearance for students on 6 clinical programmes and for a small number of students on some non-clinical Undergraduate (UG) and Postgraduate (PG) programmes. Each year approx. 1,250 students joining programmes run by the Colleges will require health clearance. They are mostly undergraduate clinical students for whom health clearance is a condition of acceptance to their programme of study. The Dentistry programme requires students to have experience of exposure prone procedures (EPPs) and medical students may also elect to do this. The remaining programmes do not require EPP; the College therefore requires a higher level of clearance for dental students than for other clinical students. As the Medicine programme permits students to engage with EPPs, it is likely that a number of students may require clearance for this - the participation rate will require monitoring. The annual intake of students to each clinical programme is about 1,250 (including a small number of BSc Biomedical Science and post graduate students e.g. Midwifery - not listed below) o Nursing - 204 o Dentistry (BDS) - 80 (EPP) o Pharmacy - 150 o Medicine - 400 (including GEC) o PG Dip Physician Associate. - 50 o Physiotherapy - 260 The provider will be expected to sign up to the University Standard Data Protection contract clauses and to meet the university specific data protection requirements which will include: o Data Security, to standards no less than those applicable within the NHS o Data Retention, to the standard of the University of Birmingham Student Privacy notice o Transfer of data as appropriate to another Occupational Health provider (either at termination of the contract or to the provider of another aspect of Occupational Health - e.g. the complete service.) Data processing would be on the legal basis for processing special category data - GDPR Article 9 (i) processing is necessary for reasons of public interest in the area of public health, such as protecting against serious cross-border threats to health or ensuring high standards of quality and safety of health care and of medicinal products or medical devices, on the basis of Union or Member State law which provides for suitable and specific measures to safeguard the ...
