Description

Shropshire Council requests the submission of tenders in connection with the provision of consultancy services outlined below. Shropshire Council operates an in-house Occupational Health (OH) Service. The team is line managed by the Occupational Health, Safety and Wellbeing Manager. The OH team consists of five employees, three are professional and qualified Occupational Health Advisors (OHA), one of which is the Senior OHA who takes a clinical lead and supervisory role. All OH advisors undertake the provision of guidance, management referrals, medical pre-employment assessments, return to work support/advice, fitness to work reviews, immunisations and vaccination programmes and monitoring employees at risk from exposure to working methods/processes. The occupational health and safety service provides a commercial occupational health and safety consultancy to several organisations. Shropshire and Wrekin Fire Authority (S&WFA) has a contract with us to provide two occupational health physician clinics each month for asbestos medicals, new starter medicals, management referrals, advice on fitness to continue in the role and review of non-uniformed new starter health questionnaires (medical examination may be required). Due to the expiry of the current interim tender, we are seeking an occupational health physician to carry out a clinic once a month for Shropshire Council. This clinic is to include both on and off-site management referrals (eight per clinic), hand arm vibration (HAVS) assessments when required, provide support to the OHA's and requires knowledge of local government pension schemes for the assessment of ill health retirement applications/deferred benefit applications as the independent registered medial practitioner (IRMP). The successful occupational health physician is expected to provide their own equipment for HAVS assessments. The OH physician will have access to a consultation room in Shirehall with desk, chairs and internet access to carry out on-site clinics when required. Please see the tender documentation for further information. The contract will be for an initial 12 months period commencing on the 1st January 2023 with an option to extend for a further 2 years. This may be subject to change after 12 months but not guaranteed.
