Description

The HyNet North West Hydrogen Pipeline will be Cadent's first 100 per cent hydrogen pipeline at scale. The pipeline forms part of the wider HyNet scheme, whose primary objective is to reduce the regional CO2 omissions. The pipeline will provide a hydrogen transportation network required to enable the UK's first fully integrated hydrogen supply network. It is anticipated that there will be approximately 90km of new underground HP steel pipeline and 35km of associated customer connection spurs from 10 new Hydrogen Above Ground Installations (HAGI's). The project will deliver Phase 2 of the hydrogen network and is designed to enable early adopters to receive hydrogen and interlinks with hydrogen production and storage facilities. Cadent is looking to identify a economic operator, which may include a joint venture or consortium to deliver the full EPCC contract.

Total Quantity or Scope

The pipeline is considered a National Significant Infrastructure Project (NSIP) and shall be delivered in line with the Development Consent Order (DCO), which is currently being progressed. The project will deliver Phase 2 of the wider HyNet scheme and is designed to enable early adopters to receive hydrogen and interlinks with the Hydrogen Village and the Phase1b Hydrogen Pipeline as part of a wider Hydrogen Scheme. The proposed Engineering, Procurement, Construction and Commissioning (EPCC) strategy and scope of works will include: - Secure the required contractor capability and expertise to plan and deliver the delivery phase of the project, including engineering, procurement, construction and commissioning. -The delivery phase will be split into 2 stages: Stage 1 Detailed engineering, long lead procurement and early works including environmental mitigation and surveys. Stage 2 Completion of procurement, construction and commissioning. - Allow a smooth transition from Front End Engineering Design (FEED) to Detailed Engineering and into execution, in order to mitigate risk. - Complete Detailed Engineering during the DCO consultation (pre-Final Investment Decision to enable the construction schedule and start-up / commissioning in 2025 for the Hydrogen Village interacting project (see below) and 2027 for the Phase 2 Network. - Co-ordinate and deliver the Hydrogen Village Pressure Reduction System works within the same Stanlow HAGI through Detailed engineering procurement and construction. - Allow collaboration on selected Contractors' environmental and local content delivery strategies to meet the Cadent's high expectations in these areas. - Prepare, qualify, procure and manage long lead materials qualified for hydrogen and ready for EPCC contractors delivery schedule. - Support Cadent in the delivery of scope in the development and delivery of requirements to support UK government decisions on energy transition which can be supported by this project.
