Description

Ofcom need to develop and publish statutory codes of practice for public consultation, prior to them being laid before parliament in relation to the Online Safety Bill. There are three areas of policy that Ofcom seek support with through this commission. They are: i) Understanding how investors impact risk. This workstream aims to understand investment decisions for services that are likely to be in scope of the Online Safety Act - so-called User-to-User (U2U) services and search services - and how they may affect risk of harm on those services. ii) Prevention of Priority Illegal Content. This workstream will seek to understand what (and how) high-reach internet platforms are doing to prevent or mitigate priority illegal content, which could include the illegal selling of weapons, drugs and psychoactive substances, offers to facilitate illegal immigration or the promotion of suicide. iii) Effective mitigations to combat online fraud and scams. This workstream will help Ofcom better understand technological opportunities and challenges for ensuring user safety within a variety of online services and environments.
