Description
Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew ('RBG Kew') is a world-famous centre for botanical and mycological knowledge. With two inspiring gardens at Kew in west London and Wakehurst in Sussex, we enchant our visitors with the wonder of plant diversity. The RBG Kew mission is to be a globally recognised resource for plant and fungal knowledge, building an understanding of the world's plants and fungi upon which all our lives depend. RBG Kew's impact on the environment (including climate and biodiversity) sits at the heart of RBG Kew's work. Our commitment to tackling the environmental emergency is identified in our Manifesto for Change, Science Strategy, Sustainability Strategy, and Environmental Sustainability Policy, but also sits centrally to our day-to-day operational activities. At Kew Gardens, both the Jodrell and Melon Yard buildings are served by three gas-fired boilers located in a dedicated, below-ground plant room, located outside the footprint of the building. Within the Jodrell, the boilers supply hot water, the AHUs and radiators. In addition, the boilers also supply heating to the Melon Yard Glass Houses. At present the systems are not separated' Designs have been completed to replace dual-fire oil/gas burners with a bespoke air source/water source heat pump plant.
