Description

This Contract was awarded via CCS RM3824 Heat Networks and Electricity Generation Assets DPS. The research is to provide an up-to-date assessment of the potential to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from NRMM. The outputs will help determine where to target any potential low carbon NRMM policies including with reference to abatement potential and cost effectiveness. The objectives of the study are to: 1. Develop the existing evidence base on NRMM decarbonisation options: fuel switching, machine, process and operational efficiency measures, innovation, and any other options by assessing the techno-economic abatement potential of each option and developing an understanding of how these might evolve over time. 2. Identify potential barriers and enablers to the development and adoption of decarbonisation options. 3. Produce illustrative deployment scenarios based on key barriers and uncertainties. 4. Evaluate the NRMM market structure and characteristics (for example, export and second-hand). Determine risks and opportunities arising from implementation of the NRMM decarbonisation approaches considered in the techno-economic evidence section of the report. 5. Produce a decarbonisation least-cost pathways model for NRMM (this is a potential project task, see section 'Suggested Methodology' for more information).
