Description

Established in October 2019, the Greater Manchester Violence Reduction Unit (VRU) is a team made up of subject leads and experts from Greater Manchester Police (GMP), Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA), Greater Manchester National Probation Service, Public Health, NHS, Education, Community Voluntary Sector, Victim's Voice, Youth Justice and Local Authorities, addressing the underlying causes of violence, and working together with communities to prevent it. The VRU consists of 4 delivery groups: Education, Criminal Justice, Health & Wellbeing, and Communities. The Education Delivery Group wish to develop a pilot educational programme within two primary and two secondary schools in Greater Manchester (2023/24) and will commission an organisation to work with the educational establishments (yet to be identified), and assist those establishments to develop educational programmes that encourage prevention of, and a subsequent suitable response from young people, to Gender Based Violence (GBV). The project will be overseen by the VRU Education lead, Dr Antony Edkins. The VRU wants to empower young people. We want a project that offers a skills for life curriculum which challenges poor behaviours. This project will address head on 'risky behaviours.'
