Description
The Swansea University Simulation (SUSiM) programme and centres are being developed across 3 sites, including the Haldane Building on the University's Singleton Park campus and Saint David’s Park, at Jobswell in Carmarthen, as part of an immersive simulation modality expansion. An investment of over GBP5 million pounds has enabled the redesign of facilities across the Swansea University Singleton campus, where the main Simulation Centre will be located and the refurbishment will consist of just over 2500m2 of space to include 8 Immersive Simulation suites. This project also includes the refurbishment of the Saint David’s Park site in Carmarthenshire which will include 3 additional Immersive Simulation suites. The concept of the design is one of highly flexible space with Immersive Wall technology to enhance the simulation and mixed reality programmes run by the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Science at Swansea University

Legal Justification
Creating Simulation Suites with Immersive Wall technology is core to Swansea University’s investment to align to HEIW requirements to promote simulation based education using Centres of Excellence to enhance simulation and mixed reality programmes run by the FMHLS to provide quality teaching, innovation, research and business growth. At testing, projection scope and clarity were queried, impacting image definition on simulation walls. Suitably upgraded equipment from the specification, replacing the superior option of the original tender, was sourced and costed by the contractor to deliver the required performance. A project budget review allowed extra funding for the upgraded equipment to ensure the Simulation experience. The price increase is not without an equivalent improvement in the capability. Delay of the immersive walls installation would impact teaching capabilities, student intake, the Faculty’s ability to meet their course commitment and add costs to create learning space.
