Legal Justification
The market has been previously investigated and it was determined that 3D Metal Printing are the only ISO13485 regulated company that print to the required standard for the University Dental Hospital. The requirement is for 3D printed medical grade implants, often for cancer or trauma patients, with a significant time pressure and importance of speedy turn around of products. At present, the designs are submitted by Cardiff and Vale's dental laboratory and implants are produced and delivered to meet specific patient circumstances. The health board's long-term plan is to gain relevant funding to bring the service in-house and potentially provide the service across all of Wales.
