Description

London Inclusion Charter Researcher- Working in education is a priority for London's Violence Reduction Unit (VRU). The VRU are working with the education community across London to develop 'London's Inclusion Charter'. This will be a set of guiding principles designed by young people to inform policy and practice around inclusion in education. The Charter will represent a "call to action" through the voices of Young People, backed up by the views and experiences of education professionals, parents and carers, with a pledge of support from partners and stakeholders. This Charter will take the form of a video narrated by young people, and the Unit will work with local authorities and schools to embed its recommendations through implementation guides, funded programmes and innovative approaches. In order to develop the Inclusion Charter, the VRU are seeking to commission a piece of qualitative research that will be collaboratively developed with the VRU's Young People's Action Group (YPAG), that will ascertain what children and young people most need in education to feel safe, a sense of belonging, that they can thrive and reach their potential. Researchers will gather this information through surveys, focus groups and interviews (including supporting peer-research by the VRU's YPAG). At least 3 schools in every borough will participate in a sample of their students being surveyed and interviewed. Every school participating will receive a £500 voucher towards school or sports equipment as remuneration for the coordination efforts in supporting the VRU and its research partner to access and hear from a range of children and young people who reflect the range of demographics and socio-economic backgrounds of London in a representative way. The VRU is already engaging with schools that will take part in the research. The Researcher will be required to hit the ground running due to the tight timeframes of reaching children and young people during school time across November and December. They will be expected to have a good knowledge of the UK education system and experience working in and with schools, children and young people. As the Charter is developed by and for young people, the researcher must be able to work with our Young People's Action Group to co-develop the survey, support with their peer-researching alongside disseminating and collating the survey to 96 schools and conducting their own interviews and focus groups. The maximum budget for the research will be approximately £70,000 (with a further £48,000 ring-fenced for schools' participation/vouchers) over approximately 3 months. The tender documentation will be released on Contracts Finder early September 2023, a link to this notice will be published on the same day.
