Description

Nottinghamshire County Council, and on behalf of Nottingham City Council, are seeking tenders from suitably qualified bidders to provide an Appropriate Adult service, to support children and young people, (aged 10 to 17 inclusive) when a parent or guardian is unable or unwilling to attend; who are detained in police custody at across Nottinghamshire and Nottingham City. If it is not possible for a family member or friend, to act as an Appropriate Adult and assist the detained person, or the police consider that it is not in the best interests of the person detained. The police may then request an Appropriate Adult from an appropriate adult service in accordance with the Police and Criminal Evidence Act 1984 (P.A.C.E). The aims of an Appropriate Adult service as described in P.A.C.E are: • To ensure the rights of children are upheld, and that individuals are treated fairly in accordance with P.A.C.E. guidelines. • To assist with communication between the child who is being questioned and the police. • To be present when the child is informed of their rights and entitlements and to ensure that they understand their rights.
