Legal Justification
These underpinning clinical guidelines for all UK Ambulance staff are outlined in the UK Ambulance Services Clinical Practice Guidelines. These guidelines are an essential resource for ambulance clinicians and provide the clinical operating guidelines for all Ambulance Staff. The guidelines are agreed by the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives, the Joint Royal Colleges Ambulance Liaison Committee and the National Ambulance Service Medical Directors and comprises of 133 guidelines. These guidelines are updated regularly which means that the book version is often out of date. Accessing the App will ensure NIAS staff are up to date with evidenced based best practice. This app will provide accurate up to date information on the PCPs to assist crews in using appropriate referrals for suitable patients without the need to transport to ED. In addition, there is evidence to suggest the crews are taking patient to ED when they could / should have been sent to a specialist team or service that may prevent unnecessary hospital admission, provide a better outcome for patients and save money to wider HSC through appropriate use of health services. Clinicians have a professional duty of care to the patient regardless of clinical presentation. This includes the duty to appropriately refer patients to other health services for further advice, care or services, when the delivery of care is beyond their own scope of practice. This scope of practice aligns the clinician's clinical education, position within the organisation and operational guidelines and procedures. Class Publishing have exclusive rights.
