Description
This Prior Information Notice (PIN) is separate to any tender opportunity and not related in any form whatsoever to any subsequent activity that NHSBT may wish to pursue. The purpose of this PIN is to consult the market to improve NHSBT’s knowledge on the status of manufacturer(s) or economic operator(s) that can supply a commercially available haemoglobin analyser for pre-donation screening of whole blood, platelet and plasma donors. It is the intention of NHSBT to further consult and engage with only those manufacturer(s) and economic operator(s) who meet the outline requirements.
Total Quantity or Scope
Per year, NHSBT collects circa 1.5 million whole blood donations, 170,000 apheresis platelet donations and 70,000 sourced plasma donations. Prior to acceptance for donation, all donors must undergo haemoglobin (Hb) screening to determine their levels meet the appropriate, acceptable thresholds (Female: 125 - 164g/L. Male: 135 - 179g/L) as per the UKs BSQR guidelines. NHSBT requires a direct contractual relationship with either the manufacturer or any other economic operator for the supply of haemoglobin analyser equipment and all the necessary consumables to carry out the safe, efficient and accurate pre-donation screening of blood donors. The service must also include the installation, maintenance, calibration and repair of equipment, where equipment is expected to have a minimum 2 year warranty period and must be CE/UKCA marked. Nationally, there are 80+ blood collection teams in NHSBT and therefore, a requirement to source in the region of 600 machines (6+ devices per team). It is NHSBTs’ intention to engage with the market to gather detailed information about the market capabilities for this type of service. The format for this will be communicated to those that respond to this PIN. Supplier Engagement days are likely to be a face to face and located at one of the main NHSBT sites. Expressions of interest should be e-mailed to jo.murphy@nhsbt.nhs.uk by no later than 12:00 hours on 15/06/2024.
