Description
Skills Connect is West Yorkshire Combined Authority's (WYCA) fully funded, non-accredited adult training programme. It offers flexible courses at an equivalent to Level 3 and above and has been developed to address employer skills shortages within the region, allowing individuals to access higher level employment opportunities or progression within their current employment. As part of the Skills Connect offer, we are looking to deliver a series of Skills Bootcamps that meet the specific skills needs of Local Authority areas within West Yorkshire: Wakefield Local Authority and Leeds Local Authority.

1 | Skills Bootcamp in HealthTech / Medtech (for Leeds Local Authority) There is a growing need across all organisations for increased digital skills, with West Yorkshire having seen significant growth in the digital and tech sector and a growing skills gap, this is an area of concern. The programme aims to address under-representation within the digital/tech industries, supporting the local and regional digital skills gap and supporting upcoming growth areas specifically in healthtech. Award Criteria

2 | Skills Bootcamp in High Performance Full Stack Software Development (For Wakefield Local Authority) A Skills Bootcamp specialising in Advanced Digital Skills is required to work with a wide range of employment sectors across Wakefield District. Wakefield ICT graduates are not equipped with the relevant specialist coding skills that employers are seeking for a modern, fast paced working environment. Award Criteria

3 | Skills Bootcamp in Construction Site Operative (For Wakefield Local Authority) A Skills Bootcamp aimed at individuals seeking a career or progression in the construction industry as Site Operatives across the Wakefield District is required. The skills and knowledge gained will provide participants with the core competencies to work in this role and to build a strong foundation from which to build a confident and competent construction operative. 4 | Skills Bootcamp in Carbon Capture and Storage (For Wakefield Local Authority) A Skills Bootcamp which is aimed at developing skills in green technology is required within the Wakefield District. This is aimed at supporting participants to gain the necessary knowledge to understand the green skills agenda in engineering and automation including the introduction of new technologies such as decarbonisation. This is a sector of employment with significant labour shortages and participants will gain the skills, knowledge and qualifications required to gain employment including the mandatory medical and driver theory course.
