Description

The National Archives (TNA) is seeking expressions of interest from potential partners to digitise and to publish online records on the subject of Russian History. The contract award would include a commercial license to publish online digital images and associated metadata, and a requirement to undertake all the necessary activities to make that possible - including conservation, digital image capture, use of metadata to allow for meaningful searches of the records, and online publication. TNA expects that the appointed Supplier will deliver the contract at NIL cost to TNA and will also deliver a royalty return to TNA during the contract period, in consideration for the licence to publish the Collection. Russian History is an area of academic study that has consistently been a popular subject among many academics and researchers. From the declaration of Peter the Great as emperor, signifying its birth, to the abdication of Nicholas II in 1917, marking its end, the Russian Empire's development to become a formidable imperial power - the third largest in history - has had a significant impact on world history; its intersections with British history has culminated in an abundance of records covering Anglo-Russian relations and key events. The records at The National Archives paint an in-depth picture of the Russian Empire's military, political and cultural developments over two centuries, from the perspective of the British government. The selected files cover a wide variety of subject areas related to the Russian Empire, including discussions on treaty terms, territorial disputes, map drafts and proposals, as well as telegrams on more routine matters such as imports, exports, taxation, and marriages.
