Description

Cefas requires water quality monitoring as part of a case study in the Taw and Torridge catchment in North Devon to deliver output 6.2. 'Report of findings benefits/barriers to using auto-sampling compared to spot sampling as a mean of assessing risks to coastal organisms'. To support this, Cefas requires the trialling of continuous water quality monitoring methods, using in-situ sondes and passive samplers, to inform catchment and hydrodynamic models of the Taw, and test their effectiveness in predicting the impacts on coastal health of, e.g., discharges arising from intense rainfall events, as well as their inter-operability with other data sources. These results will be compared with spot sampling methods and existing regulatory EA data.
