Description
Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (the Trust) requires ongoing, expert maintenance and servicing of the "Archimedes screw" pumping stations located at Queen's Medical Centre (QMC) to ensure their continued operation and to mitigate the risk of failure. These pumping stations play a critical role in preventing surface water flooding by efficiently moving excess water away from the facility. In the event of a failure, the pumping stations could become inoperable, which would significantly increase the risk of surface water flooding at the site. This could cause the perimeter roads surrounding QMC to be blocked by floodwaters, obstructing access to the hospital. In the worst case, water could back up into the QMC building itself, potentially flooding internal areas and disrupting hospital operations. Such flooding could lead to significant damage to the infrastructure, compromise patient care, and create substantial operational challenges. To prevent such scenarios and ensure the continued functionality of the pumping systems, the Trust has entered into a two-year service agreement with Spaans Ltd. This contract includes an option for two additional 12-month extensions, providing flexibility for continued support beyond the initial term. Spaans Ltd is responsible for the regular inspection, servicing, and maintenance of the Archimedes screw pumping stations, ensuring they operate optimally and can handle the required capacity during periods of heavy rainfall or adverse weather conditions. This proactive maintenance approach is crucial to safeguarding the hospital's infrastructure, maintaining patient and staff safety, and ensuring the resilience of QMC in the face of potential flooding risks.
