Description

The PEACEPLUS Community Empowerment Programme forms part of the Belfast PEACEPLUS Local Community Action Plan, which is supported by PEACEPLUS, a programme managed by the Special EU Programmes Body (SEUPB). This contract contributes to the implementation of the Thriving and Peaceful Communities theme of the Belfast PEACEPLUS Local Community Action Plan. Thriving and peaceful communities are defined by people with high levels of individual wellbeing; who manage strong relationships and connections; and are empowered to lead targeted and transformative programmes. This theme will invest in cross-community collaboration to: i. Jointly identify issues and opportunities in their areas; and ii. Co-develop collaborative projects to address these and bring about positive change in their communities. It will build and sustain relationships between people from different communities, across a wide range of sectors. The Programme will result in an increased number of coordinated, community led responses to challenges in areas which experience high levels of economic and social disadvantage. This contract is for the development and delivery of a transformational youth empowerment programme across 4 different age groups – Inspiring Future Belfast. The focus is to enable young people to become Ambassadors for Peace in their communities and beyond with the goal of promoting and understanding peace and Inspiring Future Belfast. The project will be delivered across 4 Lots aligned with the 4 strands of activity. Lot 1 9-12 year olds (Juniors) – 1500 young people developing friendships and understanding of diversity through fun/life skills activity (24 contact hours). Lot 2 12-15 year olds (Intermediate) - 350 young people undertaking activity focusing on relationship building, life skills, leadership including an action learning element (52 contact hours). Lot 3 16-18 year olds (Seniors) – 160 young people engaging in citizenship intervention approach that includes education & training in good relations, diversity, as well as activity focusing on life skills, youth leadership, volunteering, and action learning (80 contact hours (100 hours if include residential setting). Lot 4 19-25 year olds (Young Adults) – 96 Young Adults engaging in a targeted cross community project focusing on building capacity of the young adults to develop as peer leaders in communities and help promote peacebuilding

To engage 1,500 children in a targeted cross community project focusing on building friendships, making friends with others from different communities and understanding diversity through fun / life skills activity

To engage 350 young people in targeted cross community activity focusing on relationship building, life skills and leadership, including an action learning element.

To engage 160 young people in a targeted cross community project focusing on a citizenship intervention model that includes education & training in good relations, diversity, human rights, equality, social justice, advocacy, social action, lobbying and campaigning.

To engage 96 young adults in a targeted cross community project focusing on building capacity of the young adults to develop as peer leaders in communities and help promote peace building. Participants should have the opportunity to develop a variety of skills, qualifications, and experience in Community Leadership, Youthwork in local communities, Good Relations, Conflict Resolution and Peacebuilding.
