Description
Ashford & St Peters Hospitals NHSFT require a short term contract for the provision of CT scans and reports. Anticipated to be no longer than 4 weeks but with option to extend a further 6 weeks, up to a total of 10 weeks. This is due to unexpected delays in bringing online a CT Scanner moved from the Ashford Hospital site to the Woking Community Hospital site. It has been assessed that this award is appropriate for the Urgent Award Process because there is a large (and increasing) backlog of patients requiring CT scans.

Legal Justification
The Trust are in need of immediate assistance with CT (chest, abdo, pelvis with contrast). A CT scanner has been moved from the Ashford Hospital location to the Woking Community Hospital location; downtime was expected to be minimal but has been delayed due to unexpected additional work required to the buildings. There is no option to insource staff because the scanner is down, therefore, we must utilise external capacity which is accessible to local patients. The delay to getting the CT scanner live again after the site move was not expected. A competitive procurement would likely take a minimum of three months which is too long a timeframe. The scanner which is out of action had a typical throughput of 80-100 scans per week, this is a significant volume of scans and patient harm is anticipated if this capacity is not maintained. This direct award has been made following the Urgent Award process of the Provider Selection Regime 2023.
