The anticipated value of the service is a maximum of GBP 408 000 per annum and the contract duration will be 3 years from 1 April 2021, plus an option (option of the Commissioner) to extend the contract by up to a further 24 months. One in four people in the UK will suffer a mental health problem in the course of a year. The cost of mental health problems to the economy in England have recently been estimated at GBP 105 billion, and treatment costs are expected to double in the next 20 years. Mental health is high on the national agenda and policy is clear in respect of the long-term ambitions for the transformation of mental health care. East Sussex Public Health Department completed a needs assessment around emotionally unstable/borderline personality disorder in East Sussex in December 2013. The needs assessment found that there are an estimated 1 900 people with EU/BPD in East Sussex. Developing this type of service has been identified as a key priority for mental health commissioning by clinical leads for NHS East Sussex Clinical Commissioning Group. The aims and objectives of the service are: Aims: • improved and sustainable outcomes for clients; • individual resilience development; • reduction in inpatient admissions. Objectives: • a suitable, non-medical alternative to hospital admission for identified people experiencing a mental health crisis; • short stay crisis/respite provision for individuals diagnosed with an emotionally unstable/borderline personality disorder; • emotional and practical support to enable residents to manage and resolve their own periods of crisis including utilising support structures and facilities available in the community.
