Description

This is a peatland restoration contract, funded through the Defra Peat Fund, on land owned by Cottage and Glendale Caravan Park. The land concerned is designated as Glasson Moss Site of Special Scientific Interest, also part of the South Solway Mosses Special Area of Conservation. The contract also includes peaty ground immediately adjacent to Glasson Moss SSSI, also owned by Cottage and Glendale Caravan Park. The contract will remedy the hydrological issues of active drainage on deep and shallow peats, in order to restore peat forming and carbon capturing conditions. It will re-create lost bog-edge habitat and connect into past work on land owned by Natural England (part of the South Solway Mosses National Nature Reserve). The contract will also connect into adjacent Habitat Mitigation obligations being funded by the landowner, as a condition of a Planning Approval
