Description

This requirement is for the following: The development of incorporation of Plutonium powders using Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) technology. The powders are located at Sellafield Limited, and the NNL’s Central Laboratory facility on the site is the only location where appropriate samples can be obtained. NDA wish to engage NNL to procure equipment for the HIP process, install and test it off-site, with the intention of installing and operating the equipment in the Central Laboratory under a future contract.

Total Quantity or Scope

The Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) seeks to award a 2.5 year contract to National Nuclear Laboratory (NNL). The NDA is exploring options for the disposition of the UK civil plutonium stockpile using a variety of methods for re-use or disposal. This service is for the development of incorporation of Plutonium powders using Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP) technology. The powders are located at Sellafield Limited, and the NNL’s Central Laboratory facility on the site is the only location where appropriate samples can be obtained. NDA will engage NNL to procure the equipment for the HIP process, install and test it off-site, with the intention of installing and operating the equipment in the Central Laboratory under a future contract.
