Description
Extra care is a middle ground between sheltered housing and a care home for the older people client group. It allows residents to continue living independently, typically in a self-contained flat or bungalow, while benefiting from personal care and support delivered in a similar manner to home care services. Extra care allows individuals to live in their own accommodation in an extra care scheme, promoting independence with the safety net of 24/7 background support, plus additional planned care as required. Background support and personal care are being procured at each scheme.

Given the unprecedented circumstances brought about by the Covid-19 outbreak, resources in the Authority have been focussed on Covid related activity and the need to mobilise to meet winter pressures its is not possible to resource the commissioning of these services in the next 6-12 months . This means the re-procurement of this contract by the initial end date is not possible.
