Description

United Utilities PLC provides healthcare benefits as part of its employee benefits package to the majority of its non-managerial grade employees; the Employee Healthcare Scheme. Eligible employees are contractually entitled to the benefit but can opt out if they wish to do so. The benefits provided cover a range of medical interventions, services and treatments, some of which are paid directly by the insurer and some of which are paid for by employees and then reimbursed by the insurer (subject to certain limits). To this extent the scheme is a "hybrid" of private medical insurance type benefits and health cash plan type benefits. The core benefit is Company funded but employees can opt to increase cover beyond the core cover at their own cost. The administration of the scheme includes management of claims handling, customer services including a help desk facility, online self-service functionality and provision of management information and reporting.

Total Quantity or Scope

The services include the management (including administration and claims handling) and provision of private medical health insurance and cash plan benefits. Health insurance benefits provide cover for the identification and treatment of health conditions, whereas cash plan benefits can be used to pay for every day benefits such as cash back for dental and optical treatment, or payment towards the birth of a child. Varying levels of cover per each benefit are offered to United Utilities employees as follows: • Private Medical Benefits - Payment for private surgical treatment - Cash benefit for NHS treatment in/day patient stays • Scans - Refunds for MRI, CT, Thallium, Perfusion and PET scans • Therapy - Treatment from registered physiotherapists, osteopaths, chiropractors, homeopaths, psychologists/psychotherapists, acupuncturists, chiropodists or podiatrists. • Consultations (or second opinions) - Virtual and telephone/ digital consultations - Pre and post- operative tests, - Diagnostic tests - Vaccinations - Prescription charges - Flu jabs carried out by GP or pharmacist. • Optical - Eye tests, Glasses, Contact Lenses and Prescription Sunglasses • Dental Routine - Check-ups, Scale and polish, X-rays, Fillings and Hygienist treatment • Dental Trauma - Restorative dental treatment needed as a result of an injury to the teeth or jaw • Baby - Cash payment on the birth or adoption of each new child • Out- patient - Cash payment for each day in an NHS hospital as an out patient • A&E - Cash payment to help with the unexpected costs of A&E attendance • Healthcare top ups - To enable employees to increase their optical, dental, dental trauma, consultation and therapy benefits by making an additional net pay deduction • Healthcare top ups for dependants - Option to add dependants onto cover by making a net pay deduction
