Legal Justification
MDC is an ISO 15189 Accreditation Laboratory and our commercial contracts dictate that we must hold / retain this status. The ISO 15189 Accreditation has been reviewed / awarded on the current equipment within the MDC Laboratory including the Thermo Fisher Kingfishers, as such we are unable to install 'other' equipment into the laboratory without this affecting the ISO 15189 Accreditation. The installation of 'other' equipment would invalidate the ISO 15189 Accreditation and the MDC would be have to be reassessed for the ISO 15189 Accreditation and the introduction of 'other' equipment. The need to stay with the current equipment supplier is founded on the use of a single assay and protocol under our UKAS accreditation; this ensures that 1) Workflow is consistent to one method 2) Mistakes cannot occur due to confusion of different methods, training a workforce of more than 700FTE on new systems, sops and complex workflows runs risks that errors will be introduced 3) That the quality standards required by UKAS are continued to be met 4) We maintain consistency with reagent provider CE-certification on this equipment
