Description

On behalf of the EU INTERREG funded Collaborative Action for the Natura Network, Ulster Wildlife is seeking to appoint an experienced economic operator to carry out drain blocking (using peat, peat/ply and plastic dams) across the four protected raised bogs in Northern Ireland. Ideally works should be completed by end March 2022 (although if conditions do not allow work to proceed an extension to June 2022 may be possible).

Total Quantity or Scope

At Peatlands Park SAC, Armagh: 94 dams (27 in drains 1x1m deep and 67 in drains 1m x 2m deep) At Fairy Water Bogs SAC, Tyrone: 125 plastic dams at Kilmore Robinson only (Piling purchased should be PVCu and standard Z-ribbed type; five sheets of 315mm x 1500mm required at each dam). A small bridge must be constructed across a 1.5m drain to access this bog. At Garry Bog SAC, Antrim: 44 peat dams in drains 1m x 1m. 25 plastic dams (Piling purchased should be PVCu and standard Z-ribbed type; four sheets of 315mm x 1500mm required at each dam) 2 plastic dams using multi-lock sheeting supplied by Ulster Wildlife to be installed at same location as above plastic dams. 91 dams constructed of two sheets of marine ply and peat. Marine plywood purchased should be manufactured to BS1088 standard and should be at least 25mm thick. Two boards of 2440mm x 1220mm for each dam each must be sunk into the peat to below the bottom of the drain (see diagram below) approx. 1m apart. Peat must then be packed into the space between the two sheets and built up to at least 50cm above the surface of the drain, compacted and topped with scraw (see ITT 3606 on esourcingni for full details). Each dam will have 2 sheets of plywood with peat in between. Moneygal Bog SAC, Tyrone: (all peat) in drains 1m x 1m Works can commence as soon as practical after contract award in December 2021 and ideally should be completed by end March 2022 (an extension to end of June 2022 may be possible if ground conditions are difficult)
