Description

Provider Trust level data packs and reports for Stroke Pathway. Thrombectomy is a procedure in which a catheter and retriever device is used to restore blood flow to affected brain tissue. There is strong evidence that thrombectomy significantly reduces the severity of disability caused by an ischaemic stroke. Modelling suggests that up to 10% of patients with stroke may be appropriate for treatment with thrombectomy and current levels across the NHS are low - around 2.2% of patients with stroke receive thrombectomy. To support this, NHS England's Getting It Right First Time programme and the National Stroke Programme Clinical Policy Unit is leading work to improve access to thrombectomy intervention.
