Description

The overall aim of this contract is to develop and test processing workflows for National Lidar Programme data to extract and describe small upland drainage (grips) and erosion (gullies and peat haggs) surface features relevant to peatland condition. The features will be identified from specific test areas, and validated against mapped data to determine the accuracy of the methods and outputs, but the workflow processes will be developed with a view to automation and scaling-up their application to enable processing of all upland NLP data to create detailed national maps in 2022/23. Accuracy, automation and scaling-up issues will be identified and discussed with recommendations proposed on how to establish the optimum processes. Feature definition issues will also be discussed (eg up/down-stream limits to gullies) as it will be important to understand and communicate to end-users how the method of identifying each feature type will inform appropriate use.
