Road-maintenance works. Within each Contract, the works may include but not be limited to the followingprincipal work activities provided by way of example: A. Permanent reinstatement of openings and repairs todefects in foot-ways and carriageways with all types of surfaces (bituminous materials, concrete, brick pavers,flags, kerbs etc.) B. Adjustment/provision drainage installation and maintenance schemes C. Earthworks D.Environmental Works E. Provision and maintenance of fences and pedestrian guardrail. F. Reconstruction of carriageways and foot-ways G. Accommodation works including walls, fencing etc. H. Adjustment/ provision ofkerblines I. Small network improvement schemes e.g. Traffic Management Schemes, Traffic Calming SchemesJ. Other associated ancillary work Note: Different elements of, or all of the work activities listed above may beresponsive type work required to be done within specific time limits. Many of the work activities to be carried outwill require the successful Economic Operator to employ and use skilled personnel and specialist equipmentand resources associated with such work activities. For each Contract, the successful Economic Operator willbe required to carry out any such works instructed by a Works Order issued under the provisions of the contract.Such works will require a standard of works delivery consistent with that defined in the Tender Documents.Reimbursement to the successful Economic Operator for such works will be paid to them generally on thebasis of applicable rates and prices. Details of the contracts pricing mechanisms will be provided in the TenderDocuments. For each Contract, it is likely that the successful Economic Operator will be required to work atmore than one location at any one time in order to meet the requirements of TransportNI's programme of work.The Economic Operator will be expected to have sufficiently skilled and available resources necessary to meetthe requirements of such a programme and will require to include in his rates and prices for the inevitable peaksand troughs that will be inherent in any such programme. Such peaks and troughs may result from a variety ofcircumstances, not all within the control of TransportNI. The financial limits for individual Orders under SmallScale Responsive Works shall generally be between 1 GBP - 15 000 GBP (inclusive). Economic Operators should be advised that the Contracting Authority is under no obligation to issue any Works Order under this contract.

Legal Justification

Contract Value: increased from GBP 16,000,000 to GBP 17,600,000 Contract Duration: The contract period has also been extended. It was extended initially by 6 months beyond the published contract term due to Covid-19 workload restrictions and then by a further 5 months. A further extension of 12 months has been given as Covid-19 pandemic continues to have an impact on the ability of both DfI to develop tender competitions and the roads construction industry to respond to tender opportunities.
