Description
United Utilities has been looking to centralise the monitoring of its industrial-based assets for a number of Asset Management Periods (AMPs). Primarily this is to provide alarms to the Integrated Control Centre (ICC) manned 24/7, so that the appropriate business response can be actioned. Increasingly even more data is required in near-real time for more pro-active discovery of events and optimisation of processes. Routers are part of the end-to-end infrastructure. They provide wide area network capability while also integrating into local instrumentation and control system networks. They provide a secure capability for transferring confidential data, facilitating critical services and functions. United Utilities has an intention to engage the market to request information on the supply and support of routers to provide connectivity to its ‘small’, ‘medium’ and ‘large’ industrial sites.
Total Quantity or Scope

These have been categorised into three different options. United Utilities are looking to assess products that fall into the categories below. Option Description A Small to medium site with wired WAN connectivity B Small to medium site with wireless WAN connectivity C Medium to large site with multiple WAN connectivity ‘Small’, ‘medium’ and ‘large’ industrial sites are to be defined as below: • ‘Small’ sites would typically contain up to two local networks. These networks usually cover a small geographical area with very small installation footprint. • ‘Medium’ sites would typically contain multiple local networks and cover a medium to large geographical area. • ‘Large’ sites would contain multiple local networks and cover a very large geographical area. Further details are found in Appendix 1 – Router Features. It is expected that responses would include: • The option applicable • Technical documentation • Additional hardware or software support services provided (e.g. firmware upgrades) • Additional licencing requirements (if applicable) • Indicative pricing for the product and additional services • Associated lead times for purchasing • Who would be providing the equipment, would it come directly from the responder or via a reseller/distributor?
