Description

The aim of the integrated health and wellbeing service is to provide greater positive health impact on the lives of our residents, particularly targeting those who will most benefit through a service that motivates, empowers, and enables communities to achieve their best health and wellbeing and reduces the widening gap of health inequalities. The service will predominantly cover the following lifestyle services, physical activity, weight management and cardiovascular disease. The Authority would like to invite qualified and experienced providers to bid for this service. The contract will be for an initial period of 4 years commencing on 1st April 2023 with an option of a further 3 years, in 12-month periods, at the sole discretion of the Council.

Lot Division

1 Lifestyle Services
  • Value: £10M

Lot 1 comprises several lifestyle services, including stop smoking, healthy eating and food poverty, health and wellbeing coaching, a Support Club, and MECC+ training. Together, these services are intended to help residents develop and maintain healthy lifestyle habits, support the prevention and management of long-term conditions, and reduce health inequalities. Lot 1 further includes the single point of access and digital technologies and is therefore instrumental in tying together the four lots as a single, unified service that provides a seamless pathway between Lots 2, 3 and 4; allowing them to provide their services as intended.

2 Physical Activity

Physical inactivity is associated with 1 in 6 deaths in the UK and is estimated to cost the UK £7.4 billion annually (including £0.9 billion to the NHS alone). Physical activity plays an important role in preventing and managing health conditions, including coronary heart disease, type 2 diabetes, stroke, musculoskeletal conditions, mental health problems, and some cancers. It can also have a positive effect on wellbeing and mood, by providing a sense of achievement or relaxation and release from daily stress. The service will support this ambition and advocate for physical activity being in the forefront to improve and transform health and wellbeing in the borough.

3 Weight Management

London Borough of Hounslow is prioritising improving healthy weight, using a Whole Systems Approach (WSA) model. The approach will support the borough to prioritise where to intervene in the local system, to leverage the greatest impact, align effort and bring about change. This service will play an integral role in supporting the system change from the grassroots.

4 CVD Prevention

The aim of the CVD Prevention service is an early intervention, detection and prevention service in the community.
